Join us for a new virtual series, Alertus’ Emergency Management Forums, where we’ll explore a variety of emergency management topics. Each month, we invite emergency management practitioners to learn best practices and discuss trends, successes, and challenges in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies.
On Tuesday July 27th at 11:00 A.M. EDT, our kickoff Emergency Management Forum will feature an introduction to our series host, Alertus’ Director of Professional Services Gil Zavlodaver, who will present a case study on the 2017 Thomas Fire in Ventura County, CA.
The Thomas Fire ignited in an unincorporated area north of the City of Santa Paula, in Ventura County, California. Shortly thereafter, a second fire ignited 10 miles north in the Upper Ojai Valley and quickly merged into one. The Thomas Fire burned 281,893 acres, destroyed over 1,000 residential and commercial structures, and led to the evacuation of over 90,000 residents. Zavlodaver formerly served as Alert and Warning Coordinator for the Sheriff's Office, and offers his unique perspective from the Operations Section of the County’s Emergency Operations Center.
